What's happening
Bidders often call their auctioneer first when a card is declined at registration, when they see a mystery $1 hold, or when they need to change the card before an auction closes. Most of this is fixable by the bidder in a few minutes — and knowing who actually charges the card (you, not HiBid) helps you answer the follow-up questions too.
What to tell your bidder
If their card was declined at registration:
Billing address mismatch is the most common cause. The address (including ZIP/postal code) must exactly match what their card issuer has on file. Have them re-enter the card carefully.
Check for an expired card or a typo in the card number or CVV.
Prepaid and virtual cards can be rejected — ask them to try a standard credit or debit card.
Some banks flag the small validation authorization as suspicious. A quick call to their bank to approve it usually resolves this.
A card that worked before can stop validating if it was reissued, expired, or the billing address changed.
If they're asking about a small pending charge: the $1-style hold is a temporary authorization that verifies the card, not a charge. Their bank releases it automatically, usually within a few days. If it lingers longer, the release happens on the bank's side — they should contact their card issuer.
If they need to update or change their card: they can update their payment method from their HiBid account settings. Point them to Edit Account Details. If they change cards mid-auction or have multiple cards on file, remind them to tell you which card to run so you charge the right one.
What you can check
Confirm whether their registration validated or failed on your end before assuming the card is the problem.
Remember that you charge the winning bidder — HiBid does not. Charges appear on their statement under your company name or your payment processor. If a bidder disputes "a HiBid charge," it's your charge, and HiBid support will route them back to you.

When to contact support — and what we check
Contact us if cards are failing for multiple bidders at once, or if a bidder's card validates but the registration still won't complete. Send the bidder's email address and the auction number, and we can check the validation attempts and registration state on our end.
